Tiger : As everyone maybe experienced, there is this big strike all over Paris at the moment. We’re a bit stuck here in the 14’th. You don’t really wanna waste money on a Uber back and forth everyday.
Zez : Je vis dans le 14 eme depuis plusieurs années maintenant et je dois avouer que ce quartier ne m’enchante pas plus que ça. Au lieu des concept store du 3 ème, des bars chaleureux du 11ème, on trouve des habitats sans âme avec une “clientèle” familiale. Cette grève représentait beaucoup pour moi. J’ai été coupé de mes amis, et de mon quartier d’enfance.
Tiger : So, I found this event after some serious searching online after any event at all here. I didn’t really even read the details below, dj’s etc. I just thought that it was an event with some psytrance. Hopefully they serve some sort of beers and have some sort of “ok” speakers. Plus, Zez knew the place. Not as a club thing but as a squad place for art etc.
ZeZ : Lorsque Tiger m’a parlé de ce jardin de Denfert, j’était un peu récalcitrant. J’avais participé un peu… à la défense ce squat artistique en réagissant avec véhémence aux post anti-squat sur le groupe du 14 ème arrondissement de Paris sur Facebook. Mais de là à passer mon samedi soir là bas. Mais elle a réussi à me convaincre.
Tiger : After some (Bordeaux) wine and cheese (comté) for dinner, we head out (in the rain), around 22.30.
So. At the entrance, we have of course forgot to take out cash.
After the second try, we are in. Just took a few minutes to find the actual place inside. After following the music, I get so surprised. It’s bass! It’s dub. Wtf. How could this be. I am suddenly experiencing an “floating over the ground” feeling. I’m happy.
Zez : Finalement, c’était ultra cool. Squat oui mais pas trop coupe gorge, avec une clientèle un “peu teuffeuse” loin de la Hype de paris, quelques altermondialeux dans un arrondissement de Bourgeois Bohèmes qui vote PS le dimanche après un bref passage au Marché Daguerre pour le fromager sans oublier inénarrable boucher. La musique était plutôt transcendante. Et cet espace restera sans doute un lieu de liberté sans être totalement anarchique. Nous avons croisé le même gaillard au bar toute la soirée. Et je pense qu’il n’a jamais réussi à commander une bière.
Tiger : Second thing you need to find after the music, well some sort of beer. They are having some issues with the changing of the barrel. The guy that is selling the beers shows me a big vessel with beer that they have tried to “foam out”, and he says: “help yourself”. Me, drunk. Of course I dip my empty plastic glass init and fill it up.
On of the best dj-set was the guy with the big pipe. A pipe you blow in, I’m thinking Australia. I usually google this type of info but I’m sure it makes sense.
Zez : Avec les “Grands Voisins”, et dans une moindre mesure “Le Verre Siffleur”, il y a une culture alternative qui s’est développée dans ce 14 ème arrondissement qui a vu prospérer un certain Stéphane Hessel. Cette culture qui donne beaucoup de place à l’écologie, à l’autogestion, et à l’entraide est peut être un remède adéquat à une société française qui se meure sur le bûcher de l’égoïsme.
Well, after only some cheese for dinner, (and also getting a bit too old), we decide at 01 h to search up a Kebab and to “throw in the towel”. (The kebab was amazing).
